Twelve miles north of Alibag, on the north coast, easily accessible from Mumbai, is the untouched, divine beach of Mandwa - tis is what i got when i googled for alibagh.
Alibagh - one place i wont forget soon.......... we started very early on 23rd april - sat.........at 9:30 in the morning. The three of us gathered outside macki chan hall all geared up to go to alibagh very happily. Its another matter altogether that one of the guys got furious with the fourth member because she hadnt even started from her place when we reached te ferry point.
After a couple of frantic phone calls, a milk shake, a vada pav and a discussion on whether to take the two way ticket or not we set off from the ferry point (near the gateway of india) to alibagh. the trip by ferry lasted for 50 minutes during which i saw some ships carrying coal. i wonder where the coal was being carried to. after 50 mins of upper deck ferry ride we reached the mandwa beach. the beach was beautiful but our plans were to press further into the island to go to alibagh. I saw some yachts on the mandwa beach. yacht - small wooden boards with a flag attatched to it. the ferry company had a bus waiting for us at the beach to take us to alibagh town. we were on the bus for about 30 mins. We sat in the front of the bus not to get the view but coz we did not get seats at the back..........
we had to stop for lunch before proceeding to the alibagh beach..........we grabbed a can of kingfisher to have in the beach much to the discontent of one of the group members. after a 20 bucks auto ride we were there. there seemed to be no shore, the time then was 3:00.......no beach to sit only burnin rocks........its better to get into the water rather than to sit on the rocks.......... so did i.....the speciality of the place is the colaba fort about a km from the shore..... durin low tide times one can walk to the fort from the shore.........it was fun walkin with a beer can in your hand in the waters......we walked for 30 minutes to the fort ........ then spent another half an hour in the fort.......... returning back ws more fun bcos of the buggy ride..........
we reached the mandwa beach in no time to take back the ferry to mumbai......... though we did not see all the four beaches and the haji ali shrine i felt satisfied with the trip.....
wait the ferry ride back was better bcos of the spectacular sunset...........missed my digicam......
ideally one should spend 2-3 days in alibagh to enjoy the place to its fullest........
